Publish an academic book with Synergy

We welcome proposals for scholarly monographs, edited collections, academic textbooks and coherent book series. Start with a clear contribution to your subject, a realistic readership and a complete proposal. Editorial acceptance and production services are separate decisions.

description

Prepare your proposal

Prepare a proposal document with the information below and upload it with a sample chapter through OMP. These are preparation prompts, not an online form; nothing entered in your own document is submitted until you upload and complete the portal submission.

menu_book Book proposal

  1. Working title, subtitle, subject and publication type: authored book, edited volume or textbook.
  2. Synopsis, research contribution, intended readership and level of study.
  3. Annotated table of contents explaining how each chapter contributes to the book.
  4. Authors or editors, their relevant expertise and institutional affiliations.
  5. Estimated word count, illustrations, colour requirements and realistic delivery date.
  6. Comparable recent books and how your proposed work differs.
  7. Sample chapter and any available introduction or preface.
  8. Previous publication, third-party material, funding, conflicts of interest and intended AI use.

library_books Edited volumes & series

  • For an edited volume, list proposed chapter titles and contributors. Keep the chapters connected by a specific scholarly purpose.
  • Describe the chapter review plan, contributor deadlines and how revisions will be coordinated.
  • For a series, explain its scope, proposed editors, selection policy, initial volumes and publication schedule.
  • Each series volume requires its own proposal and editorial decision.
  • Suggest reviewers with relevant expertise and disclose relationships. Reviewer selection remains an editorial decision.

Contributors are assessed for relevant expertise and contribution. We do not impose the geographic quotas used in another publisher’s forms.

Author and editor information

Enter each contributor separately in OMP, in the agreed display order. For each person provide their publication name, role, department, institution, country, contact email, short biography and ORCID where available. Match chapter authors to the correct chapters; volume editors and chapter authors are different roles.

Keep private contact and delivery details separate from public affiliations. Do not include identity documents, bank details, birth dates or tax identifiers in the public manuscript. Any information needed later for payment or shipping should be requested separately.

Manuscript preparation checklist

  • Provide editable text with consistent heading styles, page numbering, readable typography and a complete table of contents.
  • Include the title page, preface or introduction, author/editor biographies and relevant acknowledgements.
  • For edited books, supply separate chapter files with title, authors, affiliations, abstract, keywords and references.
  • For monographs, keep the author list at book level; a chapter does not need a different author merely because it is a separate file.
  • Use one agreed reference style throughout. Check every in-text citation against its reference and verify DOI links.
  • Supply editable tables and original, clearly labelled figure files with captions, source credits and suitable resolution.
  • Provide accessible figure descriptions and avoid conveying information only through colour.
  • Attach permissions evidence and AI-use declarations for every relevant chapter.
  • Keep a versioned revision file and a response to editorial or reviewer comments.
  • Confirm final contributor order, spellings, affiliations, page ranges and proof corrections before approval.

Manuscript length, file specifications, print size and proof schedule will be agreed for the project. Do not assume another publisher’s page limits or production timetable apply.

Research integrity and declarations

AI-use disclosure

Disclose whether AI was unused, used for language assistance, or used for another purpose. State the tool and version, affected sections, purpose and how the authors checked the output. Notify the editor about intended use at proposal stage and provide a final declaration for the book or each contributed chapter.

Authors remain responsible for accuracy, originality, citations and research integrity. AI tools cannot be authors. Do not fabricate references, data or findings, or upload confidential manuscripts to third-party tools without permission. Uses involving substantive text, code, analysis or illustrations require editorial assessment; disclosure alone does not establish acceptability.

Permissions record for figures, tables and reused material

For each item, record its chapter and item number, original source, whether it is original/reprinted/adapted, copyright holder or licence, required credit line and evidence of permission where required. Identify any limits on formats, territories or uses. Material found online is not automatically free to reuse; alterations do not automatically remove permission requirements.

Upload supporting evidence privately with the submission. Resolve outstanding permissions before production. A proposal submission or this checklist is not a copyright transfer; rights and licences are set out in the signed agreement.

Originality, ethics and corrections

Disclose overlapping publication, funding, competing interests and relevant research ethics approvals or participant consent. Editors should record review decisions and responses to integrity concerns. Report a material error to editorial@spublication.in with the book or chapter DOI and supporting details.

route

From proposal to publication

  1. Proposal assessment: scope, readership, originality and feasibility are considered before a commitment to publish.
  2. Scholarly review and revision: the editor defines and records the review process for the book and, for edited volumes, its chapters. Resolve reviewer conflicts and retain reports and author responses.
  3. Agreement: confirm acceptance, publishing rights, production scope, charges, formats, royalties and responsibilities in writing.
  4. Production: complete copy preparation, permissions checks, typesetting and author proof approval.
  5. Publication and metadata: publish the agreed formats, maintain catalogue records, register DOIs and verify their destinations.

OMP supports submission, review, editing and production records. Using OMP does not by itself certify that a book has been peer reviewed. The publication’s review statement must describe the process actually completed.

How author royalties are calculated

The author receives 30% of the royalty pool after printing/production and selling costs. The royalty pool is the selling amount remaining after the agreed costs of that sale are deducted. This is not 30% of the cover price or 30% of receipts before printing costs.

Illustrative calculation for a ₹1,000 sale
Selling price₹1,000.00
Production cost−₹512.62
Amazon fees−₹70.00
Amazon FBA fulfilment−₹125.00
Other Amazon fees/taxes−₹34.20
Royalty pool₹258.18
Author royalty at 30%₹77.45
Synergy balance₹180.73

These figures demonstrate the calculation; they are not a quotation or a statement of current Amazon rates. Actual production and selling costs vary by edition and sales channel. Itemise each agreed deduction once and round the author payment to the nearest paisa. The Synergy balance is not necessarily final business profit.

The signed agreement must define eligible costs, treatment of returns and refunds, author and complimentary copies, losses, any allocation among co-authors, and the statement/payment schedule. Do not assume that each contributor separately receives 30% of the same pool. No minimum sales or royalty income is guaranteed.

DOIs, preservation and indexing

Our programme provides a DOI for every published book and a separate DOI for every chapter of an edited book. Each record needs accurate titles, contributor roles, publication dates and stable landing pages; chapters must be linked to their parent book. Keep abstracts, keywords, references, page ranges and the relevant ISBNs complete.

A DOI can resolve to a public metadata page for a print-only book. It does not require the Economy package to include a downloadable eBook. Public metadata and access to the full text are separate.

Scopus coverage is a future objective, not a current programme-wide claim. Scopus uses a publisher-based selection process for books. Editorial quality, publication consistency and reliable metadata should be developed across the book list. No DOI, publishing fee or website feature guarantees acceptance or individual chapter coverage.

Scopus’s technical criteria require ISBNs, digital availability, ONIX or MARC metadata, subject classifications such as BIC/BISAC/THEMA, and English-language titles and abstracts. Hard-copy-only books are ineligible. Economy does not include a digital edition; future eligibility would require a separately agreed digital edition and the required metadata. OMP installation alone does not establish that these requirements have been met.

Indexing and discovery services make their own inclusion decisions. Claim coverage only when the relevant title or chapter is verifiably included. Likewise, claim preservation-service participation only after an arrangement and deposit are confirmed; a server backup alone is not an external preservation service.
