Abstract
Climate change has intensified the risks faced by Indian agriculture through unpredictable rainfall, droughts, floods, heat waves, and extreme weather events. Agricultural insurance therefore plays an important role in protecting farmers from income losses and supporting the continuity of agricultural activities. This paper investigates the relationship between climate-related risks and agricultural insurance in India. It examines the challenges associated with risk assessment, premium determination, claim verification, and timely compensation. The study also considers the potential of satellite imagery, remote sensing, weather data, and artificial intelligence to improve agricultural risk modeling and claims assessment. Particular attention is given to the need for affordable and transparent insurance products that reflect the diverse conditions of Indian agriculture. The paper proposes greater integration of technology, government support, and localized risk assessment to improve the effectiveness of agricultural insurance and enhance the resilience of farming communities against climate-related uncertainty.
